SIGNS YOU’RE MAKING AN IDOL OF YOUR UNGODLY SPOUSE
– You submit to your spouse’s will which is not in alignment with God’s will – which results in causing you to tolerate their sin and ultimately causes you to compromise and sin
– You submit to your spouse’s ungodly behavior because the money they make pays for your bills and can give you prestige
– You dismiss the Holy Spirit’s guidance telling you to stop submitting to your spouse’s ungodly behavior and sin
– Your spouse gets you things that you want but hurts others in the process and you allow it
– Your spouse emotionally, physically or sexually abuses you and walks in pride yet acts in a false humility to the public or church and you tolerate it
– Your spouse leads you farther away from God and wants you to make them your god
– If you are a godly man who obeys the Lord your wife will cause you to feel emasculated, mocked, controlled, disrespected and dishonored
– If you are a godly woman who obeys the Lord your husband treats you unlovingly, objectified, humiliated, despised, degraded, controlled with contempt and hated
– Sex with your spouse is void of all love and intimacy and often forced or just going through the motions
In Acts 5:1-11 Ananias came up with a plan to lie to Peter about how much money they received from selling their property as he held back some money for he and his wife Sapphira. She agreed to go along with the lie instead of telling him no. So when Peter met with Ananias alone and asked him if the money that he gave him was the full price Ananias lied and said yes. Peter told him that he lied to the Holy Spirit and Ananias then died immediately. Sapphira didn’t know her husband died. 3 hours later Peter brought her before him and gave her a chance to tell the truth. Instead she stated the same lie. Then she died. You can have devastating effects in your life for submitting to an ungodly spouse that leads you to lie and be corrupt. You can even die prematurely.
Ahab and Jezebel made idols of each other in 1 and 2 Kings and both were evil in the eyes of the Lord. Ahab wanted Naboth’s vineyard to turn into a vegetable garden but Naboth refused to sell him his vineyard. So Jezebel devised a plan to invite Naboth to a banquet under the premise of celebrating him. Instead she had two scoundrels accuse Naboth of coming against God and king Ahab so they took Naboth and stoned him. Ahab then got his vineyard. Jezebel killed the prophets of the Lord and worshipped Baal and Ahab allowed it.
Matthew 10:34-36 NKJV
““Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’”
Never submit to a spouse who does not submit to God. The Lord is angry with spouses who are abusive to the other. Many in the church try forcing an abused spouse to stay married instead of getting the sinful abusive spouse delivered from their demons because they are afraid of the demons in the controlling and abusive spouse. They say that God hates divorce but do not read the entire scripture that says that God is angry with the man who deals treacherously and is violent with his wife which caused the divorce.
Malachi 2:14-17 NKJV
“Yet you say, “For what reason?” Because the Lord has been witness Between you and the wife of your youth, With whom you have dealt treacherously; Yet she is your companion And your wife by covenant. But did He not make them one, Having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks godly offspring. Therefore take heed to your spirit, And let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth. “For the Lord God of Israel says That He hates divorce, For it covers one’s garment with violence,” Says the Lord of hosts. “Therefore take heed to your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously.” You have wearied the Lord with your words; Yet you say, “In what way have we wearied Him?” In that you say, “Everyone who does evil Is good in the sight of the Lord, And He delights in them,” Or, “Where is the God of justice?””
The abusive spouse has effectively departed the marriage. They are worse than a spouse who simply left the marriage physically because they are abusing their spouse in their home causing them damage. God hates abuse that causes divorce.
I Corinthians 7:15 NKJV
“But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace.”
