Most people do not like to think that they need corrected in any areas of our lives often because it hurts our pride. So when a person rejects those who try to address issues with them and they become more defensive, act like a victim, justify their behavior, blame others, then it strengthens their pride even stronger to double down on why they are always right and never wrong which further exacerbates negative future behaviors. Many who do ministry feel pride from doing ministry.
So then they often lose their relationships with others and become even more prideful and more unable to receive correction. Saul refused to humble himself from pride and lost his anointing from God to be king.
Proverbs 15:32-33 NKJV
“He who disdains instruction despises his own soul, But he who heeds rebuke gets understanding. The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom, And before honor is humility.”
Proverbs 12:1 NKJV
“Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid.”
Hebrews 12:11 NKJV
“Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”
So always be open to correction from a godly person and listen to the truth from the Holy Spirit. Because if you refuse to believe that you could ever be wrong then the enemy has you entrapped in his deception. Many religious people will say from their mouths that they are open to correction while never meaning it in their hearts.
Proverbs 9:8-10 NKJV
“Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
