We all get hurt and wounded by people in our lives. Most never truly forgive those who hurt us from our hearts like Jesus instructed us to do in Matthew 18:21-35. Jesus gave a parable about a man who was forgiven for billions of dollars who refused to forgive a man who owed him a fewm thousand dollars and the results allowed demons to torment the man refusing to forgive.
Matthew 18:32-35 NKJV
“Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’ And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. “So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.””
What happens when we refuse to forgive others who have hurt us is that it often turns into hatred and bitterness in our hearts for that person over time as we ruminate on what they said or did and the demons continually remind us.
Hebrews 12:14-15 NKJV
“Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;”
In the Bible, defile means to make someone or something spiritually unclean, impure, or desecrated. It ruins a person’s holy standing or relationship with God, acting as a barrier to His pure presence.
Then if hatred continues to ruminate in the person’s heart they will often think and even speak curse words about the person they are angry with which the Bible says is murder.
1 John 3:15 “Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him”
Thus unforgiveness will affect many eternally according to Jesus. This explains why many Christians have little to no fruit of the spirit and much fruit of their flesh according to Galatians 5:16-26.
Matthew 6:14-15 NKJV
““For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
So to forgive say “I choose to forgive X for causing me to feel (angry, rejected, not good enough, controlled, lied about, betrayed, etc) and then give all your hurts to Jesus and ask Him to heal you and then command every demon attached to your soul from them to go to the pit in Jesus’ name.
