WHAT FORGIVENESS IS AND WHAT IT ISN’T
Most people are confused when it comes to why we should forgive people, how we should do it and what it isn’t. So how do we actually forgive those who hurt us?
What forgiveness actually is:
– Forgiveness takes the anger and bitterness away from our hearts and removes legal rights for demons to torment our minds and physical bodies with sickness or disease. It allows us to heal emotionally and physically.
– Ask Jesus to show you those who have hurt you from His perspective and you will learn those who wounded you were also hurt and wounded by others. We can then actually have compassion on those who hurt us.
– To forgive say “I choose to forgive my dad for causing me to feel” and then name off every wound like “rejected, not good enough, distant, unwanted, unvalued, unheard, angry, etc” and then say “I give all my wounds to you Jesus and ask you to heal me.” Then command all demons attached to your soul from them to go to the pit in Jesus name.
– We know we have forgiven when we no longer want our enemies to have consequences for their actions to us and we rarely think about them.
– When we no longer have anger or tears when we remember what was done to us. We rarely even think about what was done by others. We can even have compassion for those who abused us.
What forgiveness isn’t:
– We do not need to physically go to the person who hurt or abused us and tell them we forgive them. They will usually laugh and mock us hurting us again
– It does not exonerate the person who did us wrong. They must answer to God. It does not take them off the hook with the Lord. It heals you.
– Forgiveness does not mean reconciliation with an abusive ungodly person who has not changed and will continue to wound you
– Forgiveness is not saying it out loud but still having anger in your heart
Matthew 6:14-15 NKJV
““For if you forgive men their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, neither will your Father forgive your sins.”
Ephesians 4:31-32 NKJV
“Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”
Matthew 18:21-35 NLT
“Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven! “Therefore, the Kingdom of Heaven can be compared to a king who decided to bring his accounts up to date with servants who had borrowed money from him. In the process, one of his debtors was brought in who owed him millions of dollars. He couldn’t pay, so his master ordered that he be sold—along with his wife, his children, and everything he owned—to pay the debt. “But the man fell down before his master and begged him, ‘Please, be patient with me, and I will pay it all.’ Then his master was filled with pity for him, and he released him and forgave his debt. “But when the man left the king, he went to a fellow servant who owed him a few thousand dollars. He grabbed him by the throat and demanded instant payment. “His fellow servant fell down before him and begged for a little more time. ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it,’ he pleaded. But his creditor wouldn’t wait. He had the man arrested and put in prison until the debt could be paid in full. “When some of the other servants saw this, they were very upset. They went to the king and told him everything that had happened. Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said, ‘You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me. Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?’ Then the angry king sent the man to prison to be tortured until he had paid his entire debt. “That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart.””
