THE SIGNS AND DANGERS OF BEING A SCOFFER

Scoffers are people who mock, ridicule, or show open contempt for your beliefs, godly authority, or moral values. Always acting with arrogance and pride, they reject correction and actively deride, particularly in religious contexts. They are considered fools in the Bible who disregard wisdom.

Key Aspects of a Scoffer:

Contemptuous Mocker: They express disdain and jeer at others, often belittling opposing viewpoints.

Active Opposition: They do not just disagree; they make it a mission to prove others wrong, often acting as “ambassadors” for their own disbelief.

Reject Correction: They are unwilling to listen to rebuke or godly correction or seek wisdom.

‭‭The scoffers of Jesus’ days were the religious Pharisees who he called vipers and whitewashed tombs. Many prideful regular church attenders today who are not delivered from their demons are scoffers.

‭‭Proveerbs‬ ‭21‬:‭24‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“A proud and haughty man— “Scoffer” is his name; He acts with arrogant pride.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬ ‭

“Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of scoffers;”

Proverbs‬ ‭9‬:‭7‬-‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

““He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself. Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

“knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.”
