MANY OF US HAVE MADE IDOLS BEFORE GOD
Most people have some idol that they have made before God but many don’t realize it. Any person or thing that consumes your thoughts, words, time, energy, or money other than God can be an idol. Making an idol before the Lord can give demons legal rights to negatively affect you with sickness, cost you money that you waste on the idols, cause you to be tired and exhausted and allow witches’ curses to land on you and affect you with headaches, sleep paralysis, pain, insomnia, etc.
So what could be an example of an idol in your life?
– Lust for money
– Lust for power or authority
– Your job or career
– Your image
– A person (even your spouse – especially if they have the Jezebel spirit as they want you to do everything they tell you over what God would want for you) can also include your child or family
– Your body and clothes that you wear (wanting people to lust after you)
– Working out excessively
– Excessive desire for Cosmetics or plastic surgery to cause others to worship your beauty
– Car
– House
– Social media
– Shows on TV or Streaming that are ungodly, modern day soap operas
– Movies
– People in the entertainment industry
– Ungodly music
– Sports
– People in the sporting industry
– Food
– Alcohol or soft drink or coffee
– Smoking (cigarettes and marijuana)
– Gambling
– Fishing
– Politics
– A church
– Pastor
– Ministry (and the pride you get from it)
– Safety and security
What do you do when you first wake up? Do you talk to the Lord or do you grab your phone and look at social media? Do you read your Bible or do you watch TV? Do you listen to a godly teaching or do you listen to an ungodly message?
How much time do you carve out of your day for spending time with the Lord? When do you ask the Lord for His instruction on how to spend your time and what you are to do and who you should be connecting with? You have been given freewill so what do you choose to do with it? What does the Bible say about making idols before the Lord?
““You shall have no other gods before Me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.”
Exodus 20:3-6 NKJV
“Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.”
I John 5:21 NKJV
“Their idols are silver and gold, The work of men’s hands.”
Psalms 115:4 NKJV
““When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the Lord; And my prayer went up to You, Into Your holy temple. “Those who regard worthless idols Forsake their own Mercy. But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.””
Jonah 2:7-9 NKJV
““What profit is the image, that its maker should carve it, The molded image, a teacher of lies, That the maker of its mold should trust in it, To make mute idols? Woe to him who says to wood, ‘Awake!’ To silent stone, ‘Arise! It shall teach!’ Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet in it there is no breath at all. “But the Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before Him.””
Habakkuk 2:18-20 NKJV
“But then, indeed, when you did not know God, you served those which by nature are not gods. But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage? You observe days and months and seasons and years. I am afraid for you, lest I have labored for you in vain.”
Galatians 4:8-11 NKJV
“Those who make an image, all of them are useless, And their precious things shall not profit; They are their own witnesses; They neither see nor know, that they may be ashamed. Who would form a god or mold an image That profits him nothing? Surely all his companions would be ashamed; And the workmen, they are mere men. Let them all be gathered together, Let them stand up; Yet they shall fear, They shall be ashamed together.”
Isaiah 44:9-11 NKJV“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.”
II Timothy 3:1-9 NKJV
“Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.”
Revelation 2:20-23 NKJV
So if your personal relationship with the Lord has been replaced by idols in your life what should you do? Repent, repent and repent. Ask God to forgive you and mean it from your heart. Then readjust your priorities and put God first in your life. You may need to throw some things away, sell some things, reduce the time you spend with your idols and spend more time reading your Bible, listening to God, praying in tongues, listening to godly teachings or music. You may need to stop altogether watching certain ungodly shows or movies or listening to music.
When you allow ungodly idols to come into your life or stay in your life then demons will gain legal rights to cause your life to become sinful and evil instead of godly and righteous. You could become addicted to the high you get from the various idols which then breaks down the protection and blessings that God has for you.
