HOW THE JEZEBEL SPIRIT (NARCISSISM) INFECTS RELATIONSHIPS AND HOW TO BE FREED

Everyone has had relationships with people who have been infected by the spirit of Jezebel (1 and 2 Kings) but most have not known it.  Some have read books or blogs on the spirit of Jezebel but few have understood the spiritual roots behind how it happens and fewer still know how to get people who operate in it to be set freed from the effects of it.  There are many Narcissist Groups on Facebook where people gripe, hate and complain about their exes or a parent or other relationships where those who hurt them are called a “narc” but they never know how to truly help those who actually struggle with NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) or have compassion for them like Christ.  There are many in the church today who operate in the spirit of Jezebel to some level (both men and women) – as that is the main desire of that spirit – to come into the church and shut down the true Holy Spirit and God’s plans from being able to operate.  They target godly people who are actually doing good to try and stop them.  They want to shut down the true prophetic voice of the Lord just like Jezebel did when she reigned with King Ahab as she killed the true prophets of the Lord and wanted to kill Elijah.

The spirit of Jezebel develops in a person due to being hurt growing up when they cannot truly understand or process emotional, physical or sexual trauma and pain.  The enemy loves to have the victim start receiving wounds and pain from their own father or mother.  What better way to inflict pain on a child then to have it carried out by someone who is supposed to love and care for them.  If your dad hurt you then it makes it very hard to believe that God loves us unconditionally because our earthly father is representative of our heavenly Father. So it causes us to not trust God and believe a lie that if God allowed us to be hurt then we need to listen to the enemy’s voice in our head to protect us and do what he tells us instead of listening to God. If the enemy can’t hurt you through your dad or mom, then he will try through others such as relatives, strangers, pastors, worship leaders, church leaders, friends you play with, etc.  The wounds don’t have to just be emotional – they can also be physical or sexual.  It is virtually impossible not to be violated sexually whether it is through another person touching you, playing doctor, forcing you to have sex, glancing at pornography, having someone tell you a sexual joke, reading a romance novel with sex, watching TV or a movie, internet, as the enemy is very adept at causing all of us to be exposed to something sexual that is not godly or impure.

So as we get hurt when younger and cannot process it – an alternate personality develops that allows demonic spirits to speak to us in our minds.  The enemy is after our soul which is comprised of our mind, will and emotions.  Our mind is our thoughts – but we get thoughts from three places – our own thoughts, demonic thoughts and from the Lord or Holy Spirit.   If we don’t take our thoughts captive that are from demons then we will behave in ways that are not godly and bad things will happen and we will ruin all of our relationships with our spouse, children and others.  The enemy will give us thoughts to cause us to fear, get angry, jealous, feel betrayed, rejected, prideful, have no empathy for anyone but ourselves, feeling compelled to control and manipulate others to do what we want and to never be transparent and honest which stops all true intimacy in relationships.

2 Corinthians 10:3-6 NKJV

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

So if we don’t take the enemy’s thoughts captive then they will take us captive and we will not have peace.  Peace is a strong barometer of the level of freedom from demonic thoughts that we are living under.  The more peace we walk in every day personally the more free we are from the demonic torment in our minds.  If you have a relationship with someone who has no peace and says things to hurt or control you, then you know that they are battling demonic thoughts and need to have their past soul wounds healed by Jesus, forgive those who hurt them, repent for their own pride and sin and then command the demonic spirits to go.  This is called deliverance – and often takes time for people to truly complete the process as the demons want to remind them of all who hurt them and all the injustices to keep anger and bitterness in their hearts.  The National Science Foundation did a study in 2005 which found that the average person could have up to 50-60,000 thoughts a day of which 80% were negative and 95% repetitive from the day before.  Demons give us negative thoughts and remind us of all the bad things that happened to us in the past and present so we don’t forgive and they get to keep tormenting us.

The majority of relationships in the world today are comprised between a person who struggles more with the spirit of Jezebel who targets someone with the spirit of Ahab who has a more gentler spirit that will tolerate them so the Jezebel spirit can control them and operate.  In the Bible in 1 and 2 Kings Jezebel would control and manipulate and do very evil and wicked things but Ahab had the position of authority as he was King – yet would tolerate and allow Jezebel to do the dirty work killing anyone who stood in her way. She killed God’s prophets and sacrificed babies to Molech. Ahab did not like to confront people or demand his own way but would leverage his wife Jezebel to do evil things to accomplish what he wanted – if you remember the story of Naboth and Ahab wanting his vineyard.

1 Kings 21 NKJV

Naboth Is Murdered for His Vineyard

21 And it came to pass after these things that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard which was in Jezreel, next to the palace of Ahab king of Samaria. So Ahab spoke to Naboth, saying, “Give me your vineyard, that I may have it for a vegetable garden, because it is near, next to my house; and for it I will give you a vineyard better than it. Or, if it seems good to you, I will give you its worth in money.”

But Naboth said to Ahab, “The Lord forbid that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you!”

So Ahab went into his house sullen and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” And he lay down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no food. But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said to him, “Why is your spirit so sullen that you eat no food?”

He said to her, “Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite, and said to him, ‘Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you another vineyard for it.’ And he answered, ‘I will not give you my vineyard.’ ”

Then Jezebel his wife said to him, “You now exercise authority over Israel! Arise, eat food, and let your heart be cheerful; I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.”

And she wrote letters in Ahab’s name, sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and the nobles who were dwelling in the city with Naboth. She wrote in the letters, saying,

Proclaim a fast, and seat Naboth [a]with high honor among the people; 10 and seat two men, scoundrels, before him to bear witness against him, saying, “You have blasphemed God and the king.” Then take him out, and stone him, that he may die.

11 So the men of his city, the elders and nobles who were inhabitants of his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them. 12 They proclaimed a fast, and seated Naboth with high honor among the people. 13 And two men, scoundrels, came in and sat before him; and the scoundrels witnessed against him, against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, “Naboth has blasphemed God and the king!” Then they took him outside the city and stoned him with stones, so that he died. 14 Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, “Naboth has been stoned and is dead.”

15 And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, “Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead.” 16 So it was, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab got up and went down to take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

The Lord Condemns Ahab

17 Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 18 “Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who lives in Samaria. There he is, in the vineyard of Naboth, where he has gone down to take possession of it. 19 You shall speak to him, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Have you murdered and also taken possession?” ’ And you shall speak to him, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord: “In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth, dogs shall lick your blood, even yours.” ’ ”

20 So Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, O my enemy?”

And he answered, “I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do evil in the sight of the Lord: 21 ‘Behold, I will bring calamity on you. I will take away your posterity, and will cut off from Ahab every male in Israel, both bond and free. 22 I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, because of the provocation with which you have provoked Me to anger, and made Israel sin.’ 23 And concerning Jezebel the Lord also spoke, saying, ‘The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the [b]wall of Jezreel.’ 24 The dogs shall eat whoever belongs to Ahab and dies in the city, and the birds of the air shall eat whoever dies in the field.”

25 But there was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do wickedness in the sight of the Lord, because Jezebel his wife [c]stirred him up. 26 And he behaved very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amorites had done, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel.

27 So it was, when Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his body, and fasted and lay in sackcloth, and went about mourning.

28 And the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 29 “See how Ahab has humbled himself before Me? Because he has humbled himself before Me, I will not bring the calamity in his days. In the days of his son I will bring the calamity on his house.”

Most relationships today consist of people who struggle with the spirits of Jezebel and Ahab (along with Leviathan) and no one can experience peace with true intimacy until they successfully get their soul wounds healed and take away the legal rights of the demons to torment them.  Once they are freed – their personalities change to becoming more like Christ. They actually have the fruit of the Spirit evident in their lives instead of the enemy.

Galatians 5:16-26 describes people who are both in the church and outside the church who operate in very dark sin that God sees as He knows our hearts and minds and our sin.  When we get truly healed and delivered we no longer have a desire for the sinful things of this world and we change to having the fruit of the Spirit and are more healthy, honest and transparent in relationships.  We need to ask Jesus to show us all those who hurt us deeply from His perspective so we can know the truth of what happened to us and then be able to forgive those who hurt us deeply with all of our hearts.  Then we need to repent for our own pride and sin and then command the demons to go.  Then we are able to walk in the Spirit instead of the flesh and become a part of the bride of Christ.

Galatians 5:16-26 NKJV

Walking in the Spirit

16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Would have never seen this spirit operating in me if the Lord did not bring me down to a very low place. And He begin to speak through others and through me in dreams. This is where it is now but I been ordained a Pastor me and my husband we are separated now been a 1 year but marry 20 years. I just thinking God for what He is doing in my life. I cry out to Him and ask Him why? Did you do this to me and He did not do it to me BUT for me. Just a small amount of my story but what I give God glory is that He love me so much that He did not let me die like I was.

  • This is a great post. I will be linking it to my site. Thank you and God bless you for writing and sharing the information.

One of the toughest parts of trying to help someone see that they could be a victim of this spirit- mind set and behavorial patterns- is their lack of wanting to see. If the person has not yet arrived to the point of asking themselves questions, self evaluating questions, nor demonstrate any active exercises, methods, daily plans to work on themselves spiritually, ..

don’t waste your life trying, don’t waste years of your life with someone who has NO INTENTIONS OF CHANGING NOR WANTS TO. A person who wants to change, examines themselves- routinely and frequently. Yes, we should have mercy upon victims, but at the same time… protect ourselves from growing stagnant in the Lord. If the spirit cannot end your life, they will do everything to ensure YOU ARE INEFFECTIVE, as they dim the light of christ by placing obstacle after obstacle in your life. Distractions after distraction. Stress, anything and everything to fill you with negativity, frustration, anger, hate, hostility, — best thing to do- IS TO LISTEN TO THE LORDS ADVICE and follow HIS INSTRUCTIONS, immediately. ~Benmadley777
