The importance of walking in the gifts that the Lord has blessed us with is critical in helping others who can benefit from being the recipient of our gifts. Those who receive a timely word of knowledge from the Lord, a prophetic word to lead someone on course to their destiny in Christ, people who receive a physical healing and many who need emotionally healed and delivered from demons tormenting their thoughts. Unfortunately there are many who are trying to operate in their giftings but still have a significant spiritual immaturity which causes them to operate from a very strong spirit of pride. The enemy wants to puff us up to make it about us instead of others.
Pride is the spirit of Leviathan.
Job 41:33-34 NKJV
33 On earth there is nothing like him (Leviathan),
Which is made without fear.
34 He beholds every high thing;
He is king over all the children of pride.”
Let’s face it – we all have pride to some level. It comes in when we are wounded from our past (and present) to speak to us so that we will not get hurt again. It tells us not to trust people because they have only hurt us in the past so listen to our own thoughts and every decision we make will be better than others and anyone who disagrees with us is wrong. It causes us not to receive godly correction and to rebel against godly counsel. God hates pride.
The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished.
There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
One’s pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.
There are many people in the church operating in their gifts who struggle significantly with challenges in overcoming a lifetime of pride. Many who were hurt deeply are still hearing the voice of Leviathan causing them to treat people out of a spirit of entitlement and arrogance instead of humility and love. Many who gossip about other people falsely through twisted lies in order to make themselves look better to others and then have others look down upon them. God is in the process of trying to get those in the church to turn from their ungodly pasts, get healed and delivered from demons speaking to them and become His pure and spotless bride, His true remnant. It is a major challenge to accomplish as so many in the church are against the ministry of deliverance from demons because most preachers falsely preach that Christians cannot have demons. The demons are so thrilled for pastors to continue to preach that message as they get to go on tormenting Christians in their minds so they are not effective, full of pride and walking in unforgiveness and bitterness and all the negative fruit of the flesh.
So many people are spiritually immature as they are still operating from fleshly desires as they have unhealed soul wounds which give legal rights to demons to speak to them in their thoughts. People who can pray in tongues and prophesy and even cast out demons who think they are good with the Lord as the enemy assures them they are. Unfortunately the Lord knows our hearts and minds and if our fruit is bad then we are not the bride of Christ.
Matthew 7:21-23 NKJV
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
There are many who have been operating in various levels of ministry and in the church who are trying to capitalize off of their gifts without truly walking in repentance and righteousness. They still are dealing with a high level of ungodly pride and sin and still have unforgiveness for those who have hurt them. The Lord is purifying His church and especially those in leadership to bring to their attention their level of spiritual immaturity in order to have them change to having the heart of Christ and not the heart of pride. It feels good when we are getting more people to listen to us on social media and speaking in churches or other groups. The enemy wants to puff us up saying “you have arrived” and “look at how many people listen to you” while pulling you farther away from the heart of the Lord. The Lord is all about walking in humility and character. Satan got kicked out of heaven for his pride. We always have to walk in a state of humility or the Lord will have to correct us.
Micah 6:8 NLT
8 No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good,
and this is what he requires of you:
to do what is right, to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with your God.
We must pursue living a life of righteousness, mercy and humility or else the enemy will cause all kinds of confusion, jealousy, pride, sexual impurity, hatred and every evil thing. God has blessed us all with spiritual gifts but it is up to us to walk in maturity with them or else Satan will cause us to fall. It is dangerous to live a life in pride outside of the will of the Father because we then make everything about us and it has nothing to do with the Lord’s will. Too many focus on how to build their own kingdom and social media presence instead of letting God promote them in His healthy timing based upon their spiritual maturity which coincides with their walk in alignment with the Lord. Character matters. Too many people put pressure on people to give them money instead of saying nothing and doing what God has directed them to do and then trusting the Holy Spirit to direct His people to sow into their good ground.
We all need to focus on growing spiritually mature so that we have the fruit of the spirit evident in our everyday lives. When we operate in more fruit of the flesh then spirit we need to humble ourselves before the Lord does it for us.
Galatians 5:16-26 NKJV
Walking in the Spirit
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
Many people who flow in the gifts of prophecy struggle with pride and the spirit of Jezebel (wanting to control other people and ultimately shut down the true Holy Spirit from operating). They want to move their way up in the church into positions of leadership so they can control more people. The Lord does not tolerate people who are actively ministering in the spirit of Jezebel as more and more are being put on a sickbed unless they repent.
Revelation 2:18-23 NKJV
The Corrupt Church
18 “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write,
‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: 19 “I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. 20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. 22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. 23 I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.
So if we are in leadership and are aware of people who are not flowing with the heart, compassion, humility and purity of the Lord and are hurting God’s people then we need to talk to them in a loving way to make them aware of their needs to get their soul wounds healed and be delivered from the demons that have had legal right to torment their thoughts. We cannot tolerate people operating in a prideful spirit – we must just say no until we see a change in their hearts to humility and the love of Christ.
