GOD LOOKS AT OUR FRUIT, HEART & MIND – NOT OUR WORKS

Have you ever known someone who is actively involved in doing good works for their church, community and the world yet treats their spouse, children, employees, members of a ministry or certain people in very harsh, controlling, condescending, gossipy and prideful ways? When you are the recipient of a person who treats you badly while seeing all the good works that they do – how does it make you feel?  Do you feel like they are not the real deal – that they are simply actors or actresses who want the general public to view them as a great person all the while you have seen a side of them that is actually un-Christlike at the best and evil at the worst?

How do you think God looks at people who play the role of a person who acts like they are very godly and giving but inside their heart and mind they are mean to those closest to them?  Do you think He can see the truth of who a person really is?

1 Samuel 16:7 NKJV

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

What about all those who operate in God’s gifts of prophecy and casting out demons from people and see many miracles in their lives and ministries and are a part of a growing church, yet treat their spouse and children as if they were slaves – speaking down to them and ordering them around?

Matthew 7:15-23 NKJV

You Will Know Them by Their Fruits

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

I Never Knew You

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

What about those who are in the church teaching people about the Bible and leading groups of people on weekends to clean up the community, improve the church, pray for people on the streets, handing out food to the homeless, driving people to church, cooking food for those less fortunate, yet making their spouse and children obey their every ungodly command and having them bow down to them as if they were God, verbally berating them, demanding that they fulfill their every wish and looking at pornography and lusting after other men or women, enticing others at church to look at them in an impure way?

Revelation 2:18-23 NKJV

The Corrupt Church

18 “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write,

‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: 19 “I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. 20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. 22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. 23 I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works.

How many people do you know who have given large sums of money to the church yet living an impure, ungodly lifestyle and having the church pastor and elders look the other way, tolerating their immoral life due to the amount of money that they give?  In many cases allowing these larger tithers to be placed in position of elders and teachers within the church, tolerating talented musicians or singers who are living impure lives and verbally abusing their spouse and children all in the name of the almighty dollar.

Is God impressed with what works we do or does He care more about what kind of person we actually are and what the intentions of our heart and mind are?  Character matters.  Integrity matters.  The intentions of our heart and mind matter.  Our fruit of the spirit matters.  Do we have fruit of the flesh or the spirit?

Galatians 5:16-26 NKJV

Walking in the Spirit

16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,]fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

All the good works in the world that you do will not get you into heaven.  That is why it is so critical that we are healed from our soul wounds and delivered from demons tormenting our minds. So that we have good fruit, hearts and souls.  Living a righteous life.  People who are involved in ungodly organizations like the Freemasons, Shriners, Eastern Star all do good works to try to make themselves appear to look good but they make oaths to serve Satan as they progress up the various degrees to the 30th and 33rd degree as a Freemason, bringing a curse upon them and their families.

1 John 3:4-10 NKJV

Sin and the Child of God

Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.

Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.

The Imperative of Love

10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

When you have been healed from your past soul wounds and delivered from the demons that have tormented your mind, you will have peace and holiness in your life.

Hebrews 12:14-15 NKJV

14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: 15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;

So the next time someone tells you how good their works are – ask them what God would say about their heart and mind and if they have fruit of the spirit evident.  Good works are great but not if your heart and mind is evil and you have no fruit of the spirit.  Jesus knew the hearts and minds of the Pharisees and just how wicked that they were.  They did lots of great works for the public to see, but God looks at our hearts and minds.

Jeremiah 17:10 NKJV

10 I, the Lord, search the heart,
I test the mind,
Even to give every man according to his ways,
According to the fruit of his doings.

People who have impure hearts and minds are being affected by demons and are not living godly lives according to the Bible.  Jesus knew them well.  There are many people today who live ungodly lives while doing many works in front of the church to make themselves look good.  Jesus called them out.

Matthew 23:1-12 NKJV

Woe to the Scribes and Pharisees

23 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments. They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, ‘Rabbi, Rabbi.’ But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. 10 And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. 11 But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

So God is not impressed with our works – He looks at our fruit, heart and mind.  Those who have truly forgiven all who have hurt them, humbled themselves from their pride and repented for their sins and commanded their demons to be gone will have good fruit of the spirit, hearts and minds.
